Ueda Yoshifumi was born in Kyoto in 1953. Already at the age of 12 he was fascinated when he saw woodblock-printed new year's cards, and he started making them himself. After graduating at the Ritsumeikan University he entered Tokuriki Tomikichirō's workshop, where he worked as an assistant. Since the 1980s he has had many group and solo exhibitions, mainly in Japan, but also in USA. He has taken part in the prestigious CWAJ print show at the American Center in Tokyo six times; at present he still lives and works in Kyoto.
