Biography Lyon, Mike (1951 - )

An artist all his life, Mike Lyon started making Japanese technique woodblock prints in 1996, and since then he has moved forward in gigantic strides. More about his career can be found on his website www.mlyon.com, where the range of his interests can be found. His images are very closely connected with Japanese prints. For instance, he calls his series of blue nudes "mitate bijin aizuri-e, and indeed echoes of Japanese prints crop up everywhere in his work.
The majority of the works offered here are 'reduction woodblock prints', whereby the woodblock is gradually carved away as the printing process proceeds.
In October 2004 he had a successful one-man show at Gallery Ezoshi in Kyoto, one of the most important galleries selling Japanese prints.
