Biography Tanaka, Ryohei (1933 - 2019)
Ryohei Tanaka started his career relatively late: in 1963 he took a course in etching with Professor Furuno; in the following year he joined the Kyoto etchers' group. A few years later his career gained momentum and until a few years before his death he was adding to an impressive oeuvre; he has made over 700 etchings, large and small, mostly b/w, but also aquatints. Striking is his absolute mastery of this medium. He tended to focus on traditional buildings, on landscapes and on nature studies and still-lifes. In the last twenty-five years of his career he had numerous one-man shows in galleries all over the world. |
