Biography Kawabata, Ryūshi (1885 - 1966)

Ryūshi Kawabata was primarily a painter, who made prints only for a short period: it is known that he worked with the godfather of Sosaku Hanga, Yamamoto Kanae, in 1917, and his remaining works can be dated to around that time. His change from western-style painting to Nihonga in 1912 was in fact more far-reaching for his career. His greatest fame rests on his achievements as a painter. His prints are rare.
