Biography Nakayama, Tadashi (1927 - 2014)

Tadashi Nakayama was born in Niigata in 1927. In 1950 he began making woodblock prints. He lived in Milan, London and Bath, where he taught between 1964-5. At the moment he lives in Tokyo. His main subject matter are butterflies, girls and horses.
His prints are mostly characterized by highly elaborate printing techniques: he uses multiple impressions (sometimes more than 50), overprinting and metallic pigments. Since 1981 he has only produced 2 or 3 prints per year in relatively small editions, so his work is not often found and relatively expensive.
