Biography Chikanobu, Toyohara (1838 - 1912)
After the Meiji restoration Hashimoto, or Yōshū, Chikanobu started studying with Toyohara Kunichika (1835-1900), whose surname he took. His work is very similar to that of his teacher, yet (unlike his teacher) he specialized in historical subjects and especially prints of women and children. Like Ogata Gekko he also made a lot of newspaper and magazine illustrations. |
